Massive preparations to mark Gogoi govt’s 1st anniversary of third term

The Assam government will hold a massive rally at the Sarusajai Stadium in Guwahati on Saturday to mark the completion of the first year of it's third term in office. Congress president Sonia Gandhi will attend the celebrations for which preparations have almost been completed.

Sarusajai Stadium will witness some big celebrations on Saturday with the stage almost set for tomorrow's rally. And preparations for the rally have been completed, a giant makeshift pandal that can accommodate 20,000 to 25,000 people erected for the programme. The highlight of the programme will be Congress president Sonia Gandhi's presence who along with party general secretary and AICC in-charge for Assam, Digvijay Singh, will attend the anniversary celebrations along with ministers, MLAs and leaders and workers of the Congress party.

Meanwhile, Assam Congress chief Bhubaneswar Kalita along with a host of Congress ministers visited Sarusajai Stadium on Friday to take stock of the preparations.

On the other hand, the stadium and its adjoining areas has been converted into a security fortress with armed police units deployed at the entry and exit gates and other parts of the stadium to ensure fool-proof security.

Meanwhile, a team from the elite national security guards has already arrived in Guwahati and is getting the security cover for the Congress president. Sonia Gandhi will reach Guwahati at 11 AM on Saturday although it has not been finalised as to whether she will be flown to the Sarusajai Stadium in a chopper or she will take the land route.

Congress leaders and workers of the state are apparently very happy with Sonia Gandhi accepting to be a part of the anniversary celebrations
