Now, raise for contractual teachers in Assam

Assam Education Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma on Thursday announced an increase in remuneration for contractual teachers appointed by the Assam government through TET. Dr Sarma announced that the remuneration of around 9,000 contractual teachers would nearly be doubled. Besides a raise, they will also be entitled to other facilities like casual leave.
 
On the other hand, the term higher secondary would be done away with and 10+2 courses will be brought under secondary level in the near future. The Assam Education Minister further said subject teachers who will henceforth be graded as post-graduate or PG teachers will have to take classes in Standard IX and X besides 10+2 classes.
 
Dr Sarma further announced that teachers appointed in high schools can also teach Class XI and Class XII students. He also said that contractual teachers recruited under TET would be brought under the national secondary education mission from April.
